Welcome to wine estate Högl
Our
vineyard is domiciled in the western and highest part of the Wachau called Spitzergraben.
Right behind the estate the stoneterraces of Riede Bruck are
climbing aloft the Eichberg.
Almost all vineyards in Spitzergraben are precipitous terraces located on drystonewalls. These and the over centuries emerging flora and fauna turn the Wachau into the most important cultural property. The preservation of this heritage is part of the philosophy of our business besides the gentle handling with the soil and the vines. Since there is no accumulated freeze in the reaches of the terraces our vineyard possesses a high potential of old vines.
Planting vegetation of the fringe areas prevents erosion, late mowing enhances flourishing herbs, vineyard peaches untighten the vineculture increasingly. As support of the vine, the untreated wood suits the landscape and additionally provides firewood after the clearing. Due to this kind of cultivation additional handcraft is required. Besides the dedication of the family, two additional workers are needed in order to cultivate 7 hectares of vineyards.
