Winemaking
White vines with high quality
There
is no doubt that sorts like Grüner Veltliner and Riesling are by far
the most common types of vine in the Wachau. However, our company does
not agree with the general opinion of producers who think that those two
sorts are the only ones which are qualified to be cultivated in this area. Only
a well experienced and sensitive vine dresser is able to explore
the microclimate of sites in order to plant the most eligible vines.
If, in addition to that, the crops are kept low, almost all sorts of vines
show high quality. Therefore, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gelber
Muskateller and recently also Neuburger (the
former main sort) are cultivated on our vineyard.
The “Spitzergraben” benefits increasingly from the warming up of the years. Despite accomplished physiological maturity, briskness, fruitiness and elegance still dominate our wines.
Throughout the whole vintage process by hand of up to 8 weeks a strict selection is carried out. In excellent sites it often occurs that three crop heats are being effected. To maintain the natural quality of the vines and to transport the peculiarities of locations and volumes is our highest principle in the cellar.
No more and no less.
Good wine is standard in the world today. Our goal is to create unique, digestible, natural wines which cannot deny their origin, volume and especially their vineyard.
