Wachauer Individuality
To
underline the uniqueness of the wines from the vineyards between Melk and
Krems, three categories were classified: Steinfeder, Federspiel
and Smaragd. By doing that, they did not only follow the role
model of grand viniculture countries like France or Italy, but also developed
quality wines especially based on the prevailing condiditions in the Wachau
which can be found exclusively here and nowhere else in the entire world. Therefore,
Wine from the Wachau is unique and beyond comparison.
Steinfeder
These
light and aromatic wines get their denotation from the stipa pennata, the
delicate grass from the precipitous vineyards which are called "Steinfelder" in
this area.
Federspiel
This particular name derives from falconing. The symbol of the falcon stands for the classy elegance of those dry wines.
Smaragd
Smaragd
is the denotation for the classic wines with the highest quality in the
Wachau which have at least 12,5% alcohol. They are growing on the precipitous
stone terraces above the Donau where smaragd lizards bath in the sun on
warm days.
